Here's a great explanation about why teachers are teaching math differently than "the way we learned it" as parents. As someone who struggled with math as a kid, I wish I had learned math the way I teach it now. Our state testing might be one-size-fits-all, but the way math is taught allows for creative and flexible thinking and gives students agency over their problem solving. I love seeing all the different ways kids come up with to solve the same problem.
http://www.mathplusacademy.com/heres-why-math-is-taught-differently-now/ Previously, I told students they could turn in homework on Mondays. I will still accept homework on Mondays, but would prefer that students turn it in on Fridays. We've talked about this as a class. Most students were turning it in on Friday anyway. If it is easier for your family to do homework over the weekend and turn it in Mondays, that is still fine. I'm happy to accept student work anytime!!
